Radiation in Everyday Life

The Scottish Regional Committee and Non-nuclear Committee jointly organised a scientific meeting at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow on ‘Radiation in Everyday Life’ on 3 and 4 December. Following feedback from previous events, this event focussed on non-nuclear uses of radiation. The event was held over two days with the first day focussing on the general uses of ionising and non-ionising radiation and updates on regulatory changes whilst the second day was primarily about sealed sources – their uses, manufacture, security requirements, recycling and disposal. There were also sessions on the specific use of ionising radiation in the medical sector and the oil and gas industry as well as a session on the Radiation Emergency Preparedness and Public Information Regulations (REPPIR) applicable to the non-nuclear sector.
The event was attended by about 50 delegates and initial feedback is that it was an enjoyable and informative event.
An evening meal at Fanelli’s was organised for delegates which gave people the opportunity for networking in a more relaxed and sociable environment.
