Who do you work for?

Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences.

Please describe your work in general and what you are currently working on

I'm a lecturer in Physics, and currently teach Applied Nuclear Physics, as well as Energy Technology and Industry.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

Meeting a new crop of students every year and stimulating their interest in my subject, because of my approach, my passion, being a good role model is very gratifying.

Can you recommend any information resources that have been useful for you in your work?

The website for the International Atomic Energy Agency and various journals.

Describe SRP in three adjectives

Inspiring, supportive, enlightening.

What has been the most memorable, or useful, SRP event you have attended, and why?

The 2023 Annual Conference was the first ever event for me and I found it extremely useful. I learnt so much from the various sessions and also greatly expanded my network. I was also encouraged by the interest people showed in supporting my work after the presentation I made.

Where do you live?

Blantyre, Malawi.

Who do you live with?

My niece, Grace Nkhwazi.

Do you have pets?

Yes, a dog name Genki.

What are your hobbies?

Singing, aerobics, jogging.

How did you get into Radiation Protection?

Through my research studentship and doctoral studies at the University of Tokyo. My laboratory dealt a lot with radiation protection – which included membership of, and participation in, RP bodies.

Do you have any unusual skills or talents?

I'm a singer with two albums, one extended playlist and a new album coming up in 2024!

What’s the best advice you’ve received?

It never hurts to ask.

What’s the most exciting or interesting thing you have ever done?

My first roller coaster ride at Fuji Q Highland in Japan.

Do you have a prized possession?

I don’t know... I value a lot of things but my family definitely tops them. Though they aren’t things of course!

What’s your favourite film?

While You Were Sleeping.

What book would you recommend taking on holiday?

The Richest Man in Babylon.

Who would you like to be for a day?

Me, everyday.

When you were young, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A gynaecologist (truth be told it was only because my mum said I should be, haha!)

What would be your Desert Island Disc?

For King and Country (any album from them, anytime).

What’s top of your bucket list?

Backpacking in the Schengen area (I’d only need one visa to visit many countries)!

What would be your dream holiday, assuming unlimited money and a month off?

Staying on a beautiful tropical island in the Caribbean, with crystal blue waters and fabulous accommodation.
