The International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICRP) has embarked on a review and revision of the System of Radiological Protection that will update the 2007 General Recommendations in ICRP 103.  This is the beginning of a process that will take several years, involving open and transparent engagement with organisations and individuals around the world.  While the System is robust and has performed well, it must adapt to address changes in science and society to remain fit for purpose.

ICRP is comprised of over 250 of the world's leading radiation experts.  They are the 'keepers' of the System of Radiological Protection but the System exists for those who use it to protect patients, workers, the public, and the environment.  In July 2021 ICRP published a paper entitled 'Keeping the ICRP Recommendations Fit For Purpose' in the Journal of Radiological Protection.  This paper summarises the topics being considered for the future of Radiological Protection. ICRP is now actively seeking feedback and will be holding a Digital Workshop on 19-20 October 2021.  Submission of abstracts are invited with a closing date of 30 September.  Full details of the workshop are available here.
