New UK Radon Map

News Story from 23rd Feb 2023

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) and the British Geological Survey (BGS) have published a new radon map. The map, the first in over ten years, has been updated for England, Wales and Scotland; the map for Northern Ireland was last updated in 2015 and remains unchanged. The new map is available to view and identifies the percentage of homes expected to exceed the 200Bqm-3 radon action level for the home. The Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017 applies to any work (other than a practice) which is carried out within an atmosphere containing radon-222 gas at an annual average activity concentration in air exceeding 300Bqm-3, and any work environment that exceeds this level requires the employer to notify the Health and Safety Executive and take action to restrict exposures.

UKHSA runs an annual online radon one day course.  The next will be on 2 May 2024.
