BSS Questionnaire
News Story from 16th Jul 2015
Thank you to all members who completed the questionnaire about potential updates of the IRRs and REPPIR to implement the new European Basic Safety Standards, which included specific questions about update of the associated guidance and combining the two sets of regulations. The BSS Working Group (who are leading on implementation of the new BSS for SRP) are in the process of analysing the responses. Around 200 responses were received.
First analysis of the question responses suggests very strong support for maintaining the Approved Code of Practice for the IRRs and associated non-statutory guidance for the IRRs and REPPIR, although there was a spread of opinion over combining the two sets of regulations. The output is important because it forms a strong - and the only quantitative - evidence base for forming (and supporting) the Society's position on implementation of the new Directive.
The BSS Working Group is preparing a similar questionnaire for environmental and waste aspects, notably regarding current Environmental Permitting Regulations and the Radioactive Substances Acts, which will be sent out to members over the next couple of months.
The UK is required to implement the new European Basic Safety Standards by 6th February 2018.
